After the successful completion of Hindustan Times Press in Airoli, Mumbai,
the Times of India team contacted us to design their printing press on Sarkhej
Road, Ahmedabad.

As the site was on the outskirts of the city and the site was big enough to
accommodate an independent structure the concept of free press was
evolved. The shape of the structure was in the form of a newspaper-printing
machine having a glass facade.

This was done as the printing press cleans in the day and the natural light can
fill the space and facilitate the cleaning and reduce the cost of electricity. And
during night time when the press in printing the paper, from the plot boundary
people can stand and watch the activities going on inside the space and thus
symbolizing free press.
